Travellers’ Tales

(Mock Project)

Project Overview

Travellers’ Tales is a one-off magazine created as a showcase of my illustration and graphic design abilities. Although produced as a single, self-contained publication, its concept and execution reflect the quality, depth, and ambition of a commercially practical magazine.

This project allowed me to show editorial layout design, visual storytelling, and cohesive art direction within a fully developed publication format.

Purpose & Concept

Travellers’ Tales was designed as a creative exploration of journeys both literal and personal. Each section highlights stories, observations, and visual interpretations inspired by travel, movement, and the environments we meet.

The magazine functions as a curated blend of illustration and design, built to capture the feeling of documenting the world through an artist’s perspective. Every spread contributes to the narrative, creating a publication that feels immersive, thoughtful, and visually engaging.

A Platform for Creative Exploration

Unlike traditional magazines built for ongoing publication, Travellers’ Tales was intentionally developed as a standalone piece. This format gave me the freedom to experiment with:

  • Narrative-driven layout design

  • Integrating illustration with editorial content

  • Building a visual identity that reflects the theme of exploration.

  • Designing a publication with a defined beginning, middle, and end

The one-off nature of the magazine contributes to its uniqueness it’s designed to feel like a collected artefact rather than a recurring issue.

Creative and Professional Value

While Travellers’ Tales is a conceptual publication, it shows skills that translate directly into professional practice:

  • Editorial design: Creating structured, readable, and visually appealing page layouts.

  • Illustration integration: Ensuring artwork complements and enhances written narrative.

  • Branding & identity: Proving a cohesive aesthetic across typography, colour, and imagery.

  • Storytelling: Using design to create a sense of journey and progression

The magazine shows my ability to develop a fully formed publication from concept to execution, even as a single, standalone piece.

Outcome

Travellers’ Tales highlights my strengths in:

  • Editorial layout design

  • Visual storytelling through illustration

  • Creative direction and publication identity

  • Producing polished, print-ready work

  • Building a complete narrative experience within one cohesive artefact

Though a one-off magazine, Travellers’ Tales stands as a strong example of what thoughtful, narrative-driven design can achieve.
